Accommodation

Part of our service is that we arrange your accommodation during your stay along with any other activities you wish to take part in on your break. This allows us to combine our local knowledge of accommodation locations and the best evetns and attractions for your benefit.

Here is a guide to accommodation options and approximate costs:-

For more information on each category see below.

You can see a list of our recommended accommodation with our comments on a separate page.

dumfries & gallowayl

Our walking break prices include accommodation on the night before your tour starts - and each day thereafter, except your last last walking day, e.g. 4 nights accommodation for a 4 day leisure break. We can of course arrange an extra nights accommodation at extra cost.

Your total break cost will also include our service costs i.e. tour research and arrangement, welcome visit, tour pack provision, luggage transfer if required, back up service and public liability insurance etc. Prices assume two people sharing a twin/double room. Single supplements prices are available on application.

Local Knowledge

We use what we regard as the best tried and tested accommodation in each category. As we specialise in a specific area of Scotland, we are aware of any changes in the standards of accommodation as, particularly hotels, can often change ownership or quality of chef etc. We normally select accommodation in the most interesting and picturesque towns and villages in the region which you can explore in the evening if you wish.

Most of our accommodation places are on Visitscotland or other Accommodation listings accreditation schemes. We usually book three star rated premises or higher. The other premises we use are independent quality wee B&B's which we know about and are content to survive on loyal repeat visitors.

As mentioned, you can see a list of our recommended accommodation with our comments on a separate page.

Old School Youth Hostel

Youth Hostels
There are 2 excellent youth hostels in our region which are part of the Scottish Youth hostel Association scheme. One is fairly remote but in a stunning location with great views.  There are also a few other privately run hostels in the region.

For a budget walking break, both youth hostels and/or cheaper B&B's in areas where no hostels exist can be used as a base.

Bed and Breakfast in Castle Douglas

Bed & Breakfast
Our region has some excellent bed and breakfast accommodation with welcoming owners. Our local knowledge ensures the best ones for our customers. As they are in private houses, you are likely to get more personal attention in the smaller B&B than a hotel. Most offer en suite bathroom facilities within rooms.

The B&B's we have listed are mostly those accredited with the voluntary Visitscotland accommodation scheme. Others we use are excellent tried and tested accommodation places of high quality which have chosen not to join the national accommodation schemes. These places are popular and have a large amount of business from repeat customers. We basically use our local knowledge and contacts to ensure the best accommodation for our walkers according to availability.

Guest house by the sea

These are similar to bed and breakfast houses but are usually in larger premises with at least 4 rooms available, usually with en suite facilities and may also offer evening meals. The cost is usually a few pounds more than B&B's. We use mostly 3 to 4 star accredited ones. The 4 star ones are as good, if not better then some small hotels.

There are some excellent small hotels in our region. They are of course larger and less personal than bed and breakfasts and guest houses. We usually use 3 star small hotels. Small hotels always provide evening meals. We also recommend what we think are the best restaurants and places to have an evening meal in each town.

Four Star Georgian Hotel

Luxury Hotels
The best hotels in our region are 4 star quality, some having swimming pools and golf courses attached or nearby. These 4 star hotels, including country house hotels situated in the countryside, have individual character and usually have excellent locations.

Self-Catering Accommodation
Many people come to our region to be independent for peace and quiet and enjoy the scenery. Self catering accommodation i.e. country cottages for a week are becoming increasingly popular. We are able to arrange such accommodation and compile walking routes for the location chosen.
